Inside Man TV Mini Series 2022 | Key Facts & Characters & Ending Explained
Inside Man TV Mini Series 2022 is a four-episode psychological thriller and dark humor show that tells the story of a man who solves crimes and is a death row inmate at the same time. He openly confessed to murdering his wife. As he explains how he chooses his cases, you learn that he didn’t intend to kill his wife, but he won’t say why he did. The story of the Vicer is showing exactly how a good man (like Stanley tucci’s character) may be forced into a lose-lose situation and have to make a sacrifice. It shows the result of a sad tragedy of errors leading to death and a man who can’t forgive himself for triggering that unfortunate series of events with an unintentional mistake. You love him and want him to be innocent because deep down you know that he punishes himself for his wife’s death more than jail or death ever could.
Between these four episodes the creator showed in the best way that each of us can be in a similar position and does such actions because the circumstances led him there. As the show says, only one bad day is enough. Dark and at the same time humorous, realistic, true to life, it sends many messages about man and his nature and what he is capable of doing to protect what he loves.
The spiritual torture Vicar Harry (Tennant) goes through reminded me of the trials Will Ferrell’s “Marty” endures in Apple’s “The Shrink Next Door.” It’s hard to portray real, grinding, incessant, unending spiritual torment in a way that will keep viewers’ attention and interest. Most people exposed to matter this dark, whatever their religious faith if any, will call religious dark matter crazy or senseless, dumb or worse. “Inside Man” is from the first minute to the closing credits (literally) about a Dark Night of the Soul. The Night ends very happily for one person and very badly for others.
I loved how it illustrated that anyone can become a murderer on a bad day. Proving that anyone is capable of murder in the right circumstances. It really messes with your head. It’s a hard watch as it really makes you ask what you would do in the same situation. Steven Moffat’s Inside Man‘s central idea is that “anyone can be a murderer” given a combination of a bad day and the right circumstances
This show combines criminal psychology with a sense of dark humor so that the tension isn’t too intense. I LOVE that they stay away from gore or anything gratuitous but you definitely can appreciate the darker tones.
Characters
David Tennant and Stanley Tucci, two of the finest masters of their craft in one series. What’s not to love??? Damn it’s a deep and dark series to watch but loads of dark death row humour. But the acting and writing are edge of the seat through. The supporting cast give their all and hold their own but rightfully so the whole series hangs on David Tennant and Stanley Tucci.
I like the dynamic they created with the characters all being very self aware. It keeps them from appearing self righteous or justified which happens too often in other shows. I liked that each character seemingly was connected because it felt like you were solving a puzzle with everyone else watching.
I am the f###ing Vicar!
I can’t stop saying that line, “I am the f###ing Vicar!”
Can we vote this as one of best screen quotes somewhere?!
Ending Explained
Which of the numerous offenses David Tennant’s rural vicar did that resulted in his imprisonment by the end of Inside Man is not made clear. It’s probably Janice’s bogus incarceration and attempted murder. The murderer mentions Harry’s attempted son murder in their video conversation, although he acknowledges it was an accident. Whether this had any bearing on Harry’s prison sentence is unknown. The character played by David Tennant insists he is not a villain, but Grieff makes him think of Edgar and Mary, two people who died as a result of his deeds.
It’s unclear if Harry received a prison sentence for having Edgar’s child pornographic materials in his hands. Nonetheless, it’s possible that this specific offense was removed from the vicar’s record since the suicidal verger wrote a suicide note claiming that the vicar wasn’t a pedophile and was merely covering for someone else. Harry is guilty of either manslaughter or incitement since it is easily argued that pressing Edgar to confess his faults to God caused the disturbed man to commit suicide. It doesn’t matter if Harry is serving time for Edgar’s death because he is obviously very guilty and will remain so for the rest of his life.
I personally believe the ending was intentional to setup for a second season. The core story was wrapped up, but no, not everything that was teased was revealed (we’ve heard of Lost right?). Did I want to know, sure, but I am not going to lose sleep over it if a second season never appears.
