Adobe is introducing powerful new generative AI tools designed to automate time-consuming production tasks like bulk image editing and video translation. The standout feature is Firefly Bulk Create, an app that enables users to resize or replace backgrounds on up to 10,000 images with a single click, eliminating the need for manual editing.

Bulk Create combines various Firefly-powered APIs to simplify these tasks for creatives without coding skills. Now in beta, the tool is divided into two functions on the Firefly web app: “Remove Background” and “Resize.”

  • Remove Background allows users to upload images from their computer, Dropbox, or Adobe Experience Manager to instantly remove or replace backgrounds with specific images or colors (using HEX codes). This feature is particularly useful for product marketers. Edited files can currently be saved as PNG or JPEG, with Photoshop PSD support coming soon.
  • Resize offers preset dimensions for popular ad formats on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. It uses AI to extend image backgrounds to fit various sizes. However, early demos showed some distortion, especially with complex images, but it could still simplify resizing tasks for designers.

Additionally, Adobe plans to release new Firefly Services APIs to accelerate video and print workflows. Upcoming tools include “Dubbing and Lip Sync” for translating and syncing video audio into 14 languages, and an InDesign feature that automates text and image formatting using templates. Adobe will also launch digital avatars in beta, generated from text descriptions and voice recordings, for use in videos and product explainers.

Using these high-powered tools will involve costs. Adobe will charge fees based on “consumption,” suggesting users will need a premium Adobe Firefly plan with generative credits to access these features.
