Stay Close TV Mini Series 2021 | Key Facts & Characters & Ending Explained

Stay Close which is eight part series, opens with a young man disappearing after a night out at a club in North West England. This will spark a series of events that involve a wide variety of people. Detective Michael Broome speculates that the case could be linked to the disappearance of another man, Stewart Green, seventeen years previously. On the same day Cassie, a stripper at the club disappeared… she is now a suburban mother calling herself Megan, who has recently got engaged. After being told that Green has been seen again her past starts catching up with her and her family. Also involved is Ray Levine, a photographer, who accidentally took a picture of the recently disappeared man and was once involved with Cassie. Things are made more dangerous by the arrival of a strange pair of killers hired by the missing man’s father.

The storyline was fantastic, very interesting lots of twists and turns throughout certainly is a mystery. The acting was phenomenal from all the cast I love James Nesbitt as an actor. There is some outstanding acting in this boxset just amazing. It’s just as good as the Line of duty, Happy Valley, Vigil. Stay close is excellent crime detective drama.

Cinematography and delivery was amazing and totally made justice to the story. The suspense is very well kept, and it gives good closure. The ending is fantastic and I found it better than the other mystery series, its riveting and thrilling.

If you already watched another series based on Cobens, you will like this one too. And if you like to try to discover, being a detective about what is going on as you watch a movie/tv show, this one is for you too.

The series keeps you trying to guess what is going on, why and who is behind the plots, and thats pretty much the formula Coben uses in most of his tv series.

Apparently this formula works all the time in his series and they are all binge worthy.

Characters

The three main characters; Megan/Cassie, Broome and Ray are interesting; we are constantly learning more about them, their connections and their pasts as the series progresses. Secondary characters are also fun; most obviously the two killers, who are prone to dancing while doing their work and Harry, the drug addicted lawyer. The cast is solid with Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt and Richard Armitage impressing as Megan, Broome and Ray respectively. The supporting cast, including Eddie Izzard as Harry is also pretty good. There are plenty of tense moments and not everybody one would expect to survive does.

There’s something about Cush Jumbo’s mien that exudes mystery. The couple Hyoie O’Grady (Ken) and Poppy Gilbert (Barbie), as professional killers, provide dark humor. They might as well have been sprung straight from Greek tragedy.

Ending Explained

The fate of Stewart Green, an abusive guy who developed an obsession with nightclub dancer Cassie (Cush Jumbo), before he unexpectedly vanished one night 17 years ago, has been one of the series’ greatest mysteries.

When Broome discovers that multiple other men have disappeared on the same night in the years that have passed, the cold case explodes back into action. The most recent victim is Carlton Flynn, a wealthy businessman’s son.

In order to solve the crime, he employs assassin private investigators Ken (Hyoie O’Grady) and Barbie (Poppy Gilbert), and in a way, they succeed.

In an attempt to find out where Carlton is, Ken goes for Lorraine, the owner of Vipers (Sarah Parish), knowing that she will be easily overcome by the brute, as he has so many times before.

When Lorraine reveals herself to be quite deadly, he gets more than he bargained for. Yes, Lorraine killed Stewart Green and several other men before him, burying their bodies in an underground bunker next to the club.

But Green’s body is not among the dead; instead, it is discovered that Ray discovered Green’s body that fateful night and threw it in the river, presumably to keep Cassie safe from whatever danger he suspected she would be involved in.

Just seconds after killing Ken, DI Broome walks in on his lover Lorraine, who admits that she kills violent men every year as retaliation for a previous relationship who caused her to miscarry.

When Lorraine is taken into prison by Broome, she acknowledges that she killed Carlton Flynn. She says she placed his body in the bunker with the others and doesn’t know why it’s gone.

We find out later that she is lying to shield Kayleigh Shaw (Bethany Antonia), whom she saw Carlton pursuing that evening and probably assumed was involved in his abduction.

This is the right decision to make, considering her terminal illness and sincere affection for Kayleigh’s mother Cassie.

She has no idea that Kayleigh was not the cause of Carlton’s passing.

Unexpectedly, it was her father, Dave (Daniel Francis), who is a generally kind man, and he is unaware of it.

Without questioning how they got into that situation, Carlton hurried out the night before he vanished to pick up Kayleigh and her companion Bea, who had been lost in the woods.

He notices a bright orange automobile as he is leaving the scene, and when he sees it again in a news story about a missing person (Carlton), he starts to get suspicious.

To keep the mysterious car hidden from police and his daughter out of trouble, he drives back to the location because of fear that his daughter might be involved in something terrible.

Huge error! It turns out that Carlton had been pursuing Kayleigh through the woods after she had unintentionally consumed a spiked beverage he had tried to offer her, and that’s why she had put him in the boot of his own car.

Since no one ever let him out, when Dave came back to drive the car into the river, Carlton was still in the boot. As a result, no one ever knew that he had drowned inside the car.
